El Dr. Balcázar es profesor del Centro Universitario de Ciencias Exactas e ingenierías dependiente de la Universidad de Guadalajara. Es Biólogo, cuenta con una Maestría en Biotecnología y un doctorado en Biología Molecular y Celular. Es miembro del Sistema Nacional De Investigadores nivel I. Tiene un Índice H de 7 y 14 artículos JCR. Sus líneas de investigación incluyen la microbiota de leche humana, expresión de proteínas fúngicas en sistemas recombinantes, así como la degradación de plásticos (PET) utilizando hongos filamentosos.
